Teva: Building product awareness through a customised sampling program

The challenge

Teva specialises primarily in generic drugs, with other business interests including active pharmaceutical ingredients and, to a lesser extent, proprietary pharmaceuticals. Sampling helps pharmaceutical companies build awareness, gather physician feedback and forecast production requirements.

New Australian laws introduced in 2021 governing drug sampling required strict controls to prevent stockpiling and ensure end-user governance. Pharmaceutical companies were required to track samples and produce this information during subsequent audits, putting many existing programs at risk of closure.

Teva needed a way to run a compliant, trackable sampling program that maintained the physician-facing simplicity that keeps sample uptake high.

The solution

Reacon built an online portal for sample ordering, tightly integrated with the tracking and compliance requirements of the new regulations.

  • Each physician was granted access based on a unique identifier, their AHPRA number
  • On login, the patient's date of birth and initials were required, along with the specific product version dispensed (150mg or 250mg for Nuvigil). This completed the tracking loop from Teva to physician to patient
  • Additional features let Teva monitor stock levels by physician, so representatives could stay informed on when to replenish and maintain their direct relationship
  • The controlled procurement strategy used localised suppliers bound by a single quality control mechanism, ensuring consistent product output ready for the Sydney launch

The outcome

The dynamic design and reporting capability of the sampling portal enabled Teva to run a robust, compliant sampling program, contributing to physician awareness of Nuvigil. The seamless ordering process and low-stock notifications kept representatives in constant, meaningful contact with physicians, gathering feedback on the program and identifying other programs of interest.
